Abstract

Children and adolescents are a particular target group for health education, as children have much lower immunity than adults. The fulfillment of knowledge about dental and oral health makes learning more and more important to understand to the need for supporting media. However, written/printed media is not suitable for children. The objective of this study is to analyze the significancy of using video as media to improve knowledge of brushing teeth in children aged 8-9 years. This study used an analytic method of one group pretest-posttest design in order to see whether there is an effect of using video for increasing tooth brushing learning. The technique of sampling was Accidental Sampling with inclusion criteria. The amount of sample is 35 students aged 8-9 years, with the total of 80 respondents. The research was conducted in Cempaka Village, Bunaken, Manado, North Sulawesi. The results show most respondents are 9 years old, and the most gender is female. Regarding the statistical analysis using paired sample T test showed a significant difference observed from the p-value 0.00. As a conclusion, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, video media for tooth brushing learning is effective to choose for dental health education. The research concludes that video media affects the improved knowledge of brushing teeth.
